Airfield Falls Trailhead & Conservation Park

Located on the banks of Lake Lanier, Airfield Falls is an exciting outdoor park that offers many scenic adventures. The park has been designed for hikers, skiers, and even those who enjoy a swim in its clear, pristine water. The park itself includes a hiking trail, picnic area, two accessible kayaking areas, and a concession stand. Adjacent to the park's loop, you can hike to the end of the trail at the tarnished conclusion and enjoy a spectacular view of Lake Lanier.

Hiking enthusiasts will certainly appreciate the park's challenging, punishing trails. From easy, level hikes to strenuous, steep climbs, you'll find something fit for every fitness level and physical condition. Although most of the hiking trails wind around the tarnished water tower, some trek back towards the start of the trail, which offers fantastic views of the mountains around you. If you prefer to go to the top of the mountain and view the foliage up close, there are also lovely, shady spots from where you can see wildlife clearly.

Hiking into the park is an excellent way to experience the outdoors, and the views are stunning. However, if you wish to venture further afield, you can do so by taking advantage of the various outdoor activities available. Many visitors often choose to kayak, raft, or fish while visiting the Airfield Falls Trailhead & Conservation Park. Kayaking is a particularly popular option, especially at night. Kayaks can be rented from the park office or directly from the lake itself, and there are plenty of lakeside campsites and marinas along the shores of Lake Lanier where you can set up camp and enjoy some outdoor living along with water sports.

Another activity to consider is fishing. There are several great fishing opportunities surrounding the tarnished waters of the park, and you'll find that the Lake Lanier area has developed into one of the best locations in the United States for catching bluefish, perch, and catfish during any season. Of course, if you're looking for more elusive species like black bass or pike, you'll find that these also inhabit the waters surrounding the Airfield Falls Trailhead & Conservation Park. This gives you the opportunity to catch a variety of spectacular fish over several different seasons.

If outdoor activities aren't your sport, you might enjoy visiting the beautiful park headquarters. The park headquarters, known as the Visitors' Center, is on the grounds of the park. Here you'll find restrooms, maps of the park, information about the hiking and biking trails, and park headquarters amenities like brochures, food services, and guided tours. You can also rent a boat from the park office if you're interested in enjoying boating during the warmer months. There's even a bar and grill serving cold beverages and snacks on the shores of Lake Lanier.

Hiking is a popular activity at the park, but if you prefer other outdoor pursuits you'll find that there are plenty of other things to do there as well. One thing that you should definitely do is visit the Georgia Botanical Garden. This award-winning garden features gardens that are filled with hundreds of exotic plants. In addition to plants, you'll find historical artifacts, trails for hiking and bike travel, and picnic areas. The garden is open all year, and it's easy to get to by taking a bus or a train into Atlanta.

If you want to do even more than just hike and bike, you can consider taking a nature walk. There are many different types of trails for you to explore, and they are spread out throughout the entire park. There are also many different wildlife species to spot, including many endangered species. If you love to spot birds and other wildlife while out in the park, you'll find that many of the trails feature walking paths through different habitats.

When you visit Airfield Falls Park, be sure to bring a camera. You'll likely have some great photos of the natural beauty surrounding the park. If you're a photographer, this is one of the best places in Atlanta to take photos because there are so many amazing subjects to capture. Many of the photographs you take can be seen on the walls of the historic Airfield Falls House. You'll love the view from inside the house, and you can view many of the beautiful images on your computer as well.
