Lincoln Memorial in Washington
In the history of US politics, Abraham Lincoln remains one of the most important figures of the period. On the occasions of his birth in 1860 and his death nearly four years later, his image was forever immortalized. Lincoln Memorials were created in his honor and continue to be a central component of the American heritage. There is no better subject to discuss in American history than Lincoln's life and speeches. There are several monuments and other attractions commemorating Lincoln's life, including a Lincoln Memorial and Lincoln Park.
In this commemorative theme, very few people are honored by having as many statues and memorials as Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln's image is universally recognized and is revered as a national symbol. From state and local initiatives to the largest Lincoln Memorial which graced the National Mall, Lincoln is universally revered as one of our nation's greatest leaders and a national icon. His image alone is a tribute to his leadership and passion for the nation.
The majority of the Lincoln Memorial Statues are granite plaques which were made by American sculptor Edwin C. Butterfield. Other statues include the bust of the great president, the marble statue of Mr. Lincoln himself, and a number of bronze memorials. Because they are granite and cast in the likeness of Lincoln's likenesses, these monuments have the highest standard of durability and represent the best of American craftsmanship.
Another Lincoln Memorial is the bust of President Lincoln. It resides in the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Valley Forge, NE. On the south side of the memorial is a plaque that states the history of the design of the monument, the name of President Lincoln, and his wife. Two stairways and a flight of stairs connect the two sides of the bust. Along the bottom of the stairs is a seal that can be lifted, revealing the bronze statue of the president.
Lincoln Memorials have become an important part of our nation's culture. They are depicted in every form and detail in popular culture, movies, cartoons, music, literature, and other media. As a result, many people are unaware that they are in existence. One of the best ways to enhance awareness of Lincoln's role in our history is to raise funds for a Lincoln Memorial. These raised funds can be used for a variety of purposes, including maintenance, security, and upkeep for these treasured memorials.
An example is the bust of Abraham Lincoln which is located at the Abraham Lincoln Historic Site in Springfield, IL. This original statue was constructed almost 150 years ago. The Lincoln Memorial Foundation was formed to preserve the original bust. Since its dedication, the Foundation has worked diligently to maintain the integrity of this historic site. They also work with local municipalities and Illinois government agencies to ensure that a Lincoln Memorial is showcased where it is needed most.
Another example of a Lincoln Memorial located in Illinois is the statue of President Lincoln which was damaged in a fire. A restoration company was commissioned to restore this statue to its original beauty. The statue, which is located in the Lincoln Park District in Chicago, was declared a national landmark in 2021. On the south side of the statue is the original base which was damaged by the fire. A new Lincoln Memorial was constructed to encompass the former memorial and to include the Firemen statue which was damaged by the same fire.
In addition to these historical landmarks, there are many other monuments in all of the United States commemorating various moments in our history. Washington, D.C. hosts numerous national holidays each year. In honor of the Fourth of July, there is the National Mall. Independence Hall in Philadelphia and the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. are other great places to experience national holiday spirit. All of these locations are home to many famous monuments and historical landmarks that are a part of our nation's rich history. While many of these sites may no longer be operating, hundreds of others continue to call Washington, D.C. home.
