The Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge was established in 1960 as an outdoor museum. The center comprises wetlands, forests, and prairies. It gives a peep into what the Dallas skyline looked like before settlement. It features interpretive displays about the natural world. The museum is also home to a planetarium that gives special presentations on life on earth.

For a more thrilling and adventurous experience, the Fort Worth nature center and the refuge offer the Harness running Trail. The trail leads to the famous denkhaus. The denkhaus is a ruin of an old mansion and it was designed as a modern recreation of Dutch architecture. In this place, you will have a chance to view the original architectural pieces and designs. The denkhaus is separated into several sections and you will have to go through them to reach the end. At the end of the trail, there will be a Starbucks and a few fast-food joints.

Apart from the outdoor activities, the Fort Worth nature center and refuge have a couple of indoor attractions. The refuge has several exhibits and displays which will surely entertain and educate your kids. One such exhibit is the "Jurassic Coast Adventure Park". This is an interactive exhibit that allows the kids to directly interact with dinosaurs in the comfort of their indoor habitats. Besides that, the Fort Worth zoo also features a small animal farm where the kids can feed, pet, and play with some of the exotic animals found within the city limits.
