Benbrook Lake

Benbrook Lake is a lake in the Clear Fork of the Trinity River southwest of Fort Worth, Texas, USA. The lake lies about 10 miles west of Fort Worth, within the boundaries of the City of Fort Worth. The lake itself is stocked by Lake Jennings, a tributary of the Trinity River. The lake's boundaries have recently been extended to include the Old Fort ruins area, a World War II Air Force housing site.

Benbrook Lake

Benbrook Lake is very popular for its amazing scenery. Many tourists come here each year to view the natural landscape, and to photograph nature photography on film. It is one of only two lakes in Texas designated a U.S. National Wild and Scenic Area. The lake itself is very scenic, with many beautiful tree rests and trails. The lake and its surrounding area are also home to a small town of about 6500 people called New Braunfels.

In addition to being a wonderful destination for outdoor recreation, Benbrook Lake also offers much in the way of lodging. There are two campgrounds in the lake area, each offering RV parking. Most of these are on land, but there are some RV parks that offer boat docks. All of these offer conveniences like electricity, plumbing, and modern amenities for your convenience while you enjoy your stay at Fort Worth.

When you decide to visit the Benbrook Lake area, one of your first stops should be the Trinity River Wild Water Wilderness Preserve. This is a four-mile-long area that is off-limit to all motorized vehicles. The area is home to elk, deer, bears, and numerous other species of wildlife. It is home to a clear forklift-led fishing excursion that will allow you to fish up to two miles of a clear river.

If you love the open countryside of Fort Worth then you should consider hiking the 800-milelong prairie meadows. You will find many different routes to take to get to the top of Fort Worth's continental divide. One route takes you through Connaughton and onto the west branch of Texas' famous Red River. This takes you right into the heart of Texas nature. Hiking this way will give you a view of some of the most spectacular scenery in the state.

Angling opportunities abound on Benbrook Lake. One of the best places to find good fishing is around Rainbow Bay, where a boat launch has been constructed. This makes it very easy to fish from the pier or from a boat because there is no other access to a clear fork over the shallow waters around Rainbow Bay.

Other excellent camping options are at the Winnetu camping site, just north of Benbrook Lake. This is another RV campground with plenty of camping options. You can pull into the campground and easily set up your RV to park, with plenty of hookups for electricity. There are playgrounds, picnic areas, and a ranger-assisted campground that will keep you safe. For those that like to fish, there are also many excellent fishing opportunities in the stocked river near Benbrook.

Benbrook Lake has grown in population over the years and has a lot of family fun to be had as well. If you enjoy fishing, hiking, camping, and swimming you will be happy that you took advantage of this wonderful opportunity to get away from it all when you head out to this relaxing vacation spot. There are tons of fishing spots, which provide good fishing opportunities for small to big fish. It would be great to sit back and enjoy the peaceful beauty of this lake. Benbrook Lake State Park makes this camping trip even more enjoyable.
