The Sixth Floor Museum in Dealey Plaza is an exciting exhibit to see. It is one of many major attractions in Dallas that bring visitors down south for an amazing holiday experience. In addition to the famous Power and Light Districts of downtown Dallas, the Sixth Floor Museum exhibits rare paintings, rare manuscripts, and other important pieces from the history of Texas. The Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas features two areas for visitors to explore: The Visitor's Center and The Performing Arts Center. The museum occupies a part of the old Consolidated Steel and Light Company Plaza, which was torn down in the late 1980s. A new, improved exhibit space occupies this area today. The Museum contains two areas: The Visitor's Center, which features information about the history of the building and its workings; and The Performing Arts Center, which offers entertainment programs for the entire family.

The Visitor's Center has a wide range of interesting exhibits. In addition to the usual visitor displays - including a fine collection of jewelry from around the world, a replica of the Taj Mahal, as well as works by Frank Lloyd Wright and others - the Visitor's Center includes interactive exhibits, an interactive video, as well as an audio-visual program featuring rare movie clips. The Dallas Historical Association and the Dallas Arts Council also sponsor this popular attraction for Dallas residents. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza was dedicated in honor of Mrs. Josephine Johnson, who was the first lady of Texas.

The second area of the museum features a two-story lobby with a grand staircase and extensive floral landscaping. Exhibits in this area include a reenactment of the history of The Great Depression (lottery booths, stagecoaches, general merchandise); Thomas Jefferson and His Famous Oil Painting; and The Making of America's Fifth Congressional District. The Sixth Floor Museum also serves as a media center, where Dallas television news shows and television documentaries are displayed. There are two permanent classrooms on the second floor for children, plus a Kids' Center with games, toys, art supplies, and activities. This virtual learning experience is part of the museum's gift to the city.

The third area is dedicated to the memory of President John F. Kennedy. There are several core exhibits, such as The Kennedy Center: Inside History, which includes a recording of the president's final address to Congress; The Kennedy Center Experience, which highlights the historic moments that shaped the first American administration; The American Museum of Natural History, which features a great selection of exhibits, as well as The Wall Street Journal's Science and Environmental Defense Center; and The Kennedy Gallery, which is a display of artworks based on the life and legacy of the former president. A portion of this museum focuses on the critical mission and achievements of the museum's namesake president. The last quarter of the museum has in it The Last Lecture: John Kennedy, which is a powerful final speech given by the former president to an audience of students and teachers from the University of Texas. The University of Texas School of Journalism has recently won a number of awards for its coverage of this historical event.

Dealey Plaza itself hosts a number of attractions, including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Holocaust Museum, and the Dallas Holocaust Memorial. The Science and Environmental Defense Center, or SEED, which is a partnership between six universities, features a "Green Lab" where a handful of scientists share their ideas and research; the Dallas Science Museum, which features a small-scale zoo, a planetarium, and science programs; and The Museum of Cultures, Culture, and Arts, which is devoted to the study of culture through the eyes of art. Other attractions include The Dallas Club, The Dallas Holocaust Museum, The Dallas Symphony, and the Dallas Aquarium. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza features a wide variety of local antiques, artworks, and jewelry from various periods in the city's history. The Dealey Plaza also houses a number of hotels, restaurants, and bars. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza underwent a complete reconstruction in 1998.

One of the most popular attractions of the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey is The Emporium, which was created in 1963 and serves as one of Dallas' oldest antique malls. Built on North Avenue, near downtown Dallas, The Emporium is well-known for its collection of antiques and unique items. The Mall hosts a wide array of annual cultural events that showcase local talent and art. Other events include film nights, food festivals, musical concerts, and book launches. A major highlight is the annual Dallas Book Festival, which serves as the pre-eminent literary event in the Lone Star State. The festival has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Governor's Prize.

In addition to The Emporium and The Sixth Floor Museum, the Dallas Visitors' Center also features two other museums. The Dallas Historical Society Museum, which serves as a permanent home and research center for the society, houses several artifacts relating to the history of Dallas. The Morton H. Meyerson Museum of Dallas Art is the only one of its kind in the city. The museum is devoted to the life and work of Morton Meyerson, a renowned Dallas artist, and photographer. Other prominent exhibits in the Dallas Visitors' Center include The Barnum Exhibit, which showcases the work of some of the world's greatest artists; The Dallas Symphony's newly renovated Symphony House presents works by some of the area's most notable composers; and the Dallas Veterans Museum, which offers a complete display of military insignia, uniforms, and memorabilia.
